November's Horse & Rider--What's In Store
Horse & Rider's November issue will be out any day now, and I'm excited for you to get it and share your thoughts. The cover rider is reining trainer Dave Moore, of Florida. He provides great insights about the importance of putting "wait" on a horse--in other words, training it to wait for the rider's cues rather than to make decisions on his own.
The Q&A Interview is with Craig Cameron, originator of the Extreme Cowboy Racing sport. Craig outlines what the sport is all about, and helps shed light on why its popularity is growing.
And then, just for fun, we provide a pictorial of show fads and fashions of the 1970s. Careful--coffee-up-nose snort alert on that one!

Are you one of the 70's examples? did yo have to put black bars over the peoples eyes so thy can connot be recognized? Looking forward to the mail.
GREAT COVER!
Cant wait for the 70's fashion story! LOL
I have been reading Les Vogts blog, he has blogged about the recent snaffle bit futurity in Reno, and some of the training of the colt he has been riding, some good stuff!
Looking forward to it! Love the feeling of movement and action in that cover shot :)
Hope my first issue gets here in time. I had sent in a subscription card a long time ago, and apparently it was not received. Recently got a thing in the mail with a GREAT deal - $15 for 2 years — yeehaw!
Great cover. I need the article about WHOA. Poco stops well for me when I'm riding, but I can't translate it to the ground. Backwards, I know.
Are you coming to the World Appaloosa Show in FW this month?
I had my geldings portrait painted at www.lavinstudio.com
I would definitely read the bit about the "wait". I'm leasing a rescue mare with a who-knows-what history, but whatever it was its made her very anxious about the canter. We've worked through that anticipation, but when she's distracted, she definitely thinks too much about how much bend I'll be asking for, whether or not i REALLY meant her to go straight, and all that goodness that keeps me on my toes!
Way Cool!
I can hardly wait to receive that issue.....& I will becareful to not drink coffee while reading the Fashion statements...lol!
Have a great week...

What a great issue. Smitty looks wonderful and Corky's is just a great story of horsey life reward. The 70's styles are great and I do recognize a couple of the riders. Love the bright yellow chaps (shiver). And to me, the most telling thing in the issue is the results of last months "Gallop Poll" on registration papers.
Lynette,
I found the poll on registration papers to be quite telling as well, wherein the majority of respondents said papers don't matter much or at all to them. This is not good news for breed registries.
Have you noticed that AQHA is doing ads that tout the VALUE of owning a registered horse? That tells me they are aware of shift in public attitude and aren't being complacent about it.
But back to the main gist of your comment, which was about the November issue overall. So glad you like it!
I was a teenage horse show kid in the 70's. Here's to taco hats and bells on our jeans!
Great issue. The look back at the 70's is a hoot. I had totally forgotten the fringe in the blankets - gee, could we have found anything to make our horses look more butt-high and their jogs rougher?
