June's H&R Now Coming Your Way

We've already started getting mail about the latest issue of Horse&Rider, so I'm excited to show you the cover and see what you think about the article lineup.

I learned a lot, personally, from the story on what we might call "extreme equine dentistry." The trailer-backing how-to has come in handy, too. It was contributed by Lynn Palm, who meets lots of reluctant trailer-backer-uppers at her clinics.

Lots of fun reading about various breeds, plus a whole lot more. And, an Arabian on the cover.

Hope you enjoy!

I had one vet coming out to do excessive dentistry on my oldest mare every 6 months for several years. One day I took time off from work to meet with him, and he didn't show up because he just spaced our appointment, so I switched vets. The new vet said that not only did all that dental work not need to be done, but it did more damage than good. So, I'm interested in the dentistry article, and of course anything about trails and trailering. Pretty horse on the cover.

Got it today. The article I'm most interested in is "Your Horse's Brain On Trail Rides", as I'm still having emotional issues (of my own of course) outside of the arena. :(

Hi Julie,
What trip. I have saved your Sept. 1997 article (A matter of Balance), and just ran into it, cleaning my office. I thought whatever happened to Julie, and I googled you and discoverd you are back. You made my day. Thank you for all your articles and sharing. Susan Yates

Susan,
How about that Google? Amazing we ever lived without it.

I sometimes wonder how many articles are tucked away in people's files somewhere. Probably more than I realize?

I'm late commenting, but I was busy reading my copy of HR.
I was happy to see it was a breed issue. I just love breed issues.
I was a little surprised (and maybe a lttle bummed) to see paints, pintos, buckskins, palominos and mustangs listed.
I have always considered the first 4 as colors, not breeds, and mustangs are, well, mustangs.
Don't get me wrong, I have a palomino and a buckskin. But their breed is QH.
I have owned a mustang in my life and enjoyed her immensely. She was little, narrow and had good feet and feathering to show her draft horse heritage.
I trained a mustang last year who was extremely cute with strong Arab and QH characteristics. She was a black buckskin.
I'm not trying to cause trouble, I'm just thinking.

SO HAPPY TO SEE AN ARAB ON THE COVER! Where they belong!

Can't wait to pick up a copy and read it cover to cover.

How about a issue on getting back to showing horses, I have been a stay at home mom for nine years.

I am just now able to start playing with my horses again. My mare is a 14 years old Quarter horse, I have had her since 1998.I always figured I would get back to showing sooner than later, so I kept her instead selling.

I would like to show with the IBHA since my mare is a Dun. Do you know if there are any good books out there on getting your horse ready to show and what products to use.

I would like to start with halter and work up from there. I just can not remember for the life of me where to began.

Thanks,
Vicki Ridpath
