Are You Showing a Horse This Year?

As a point of curiosity, I'm wondering if you have any plans to show your horse(s) this year.

If you do, how about sharing a few details--about your steed, your goals, your level of play, and so forth? You'd be giving me a vicarious chance to live the arena rider's life.

For one reason or another, the last couple of years have not been showing-friendly ones for me. And now that I've squared my shoulders to take on a new job, this year's going to be a show-pen wash as well.

But, I do have a new horse with potential to do yearling classes next year...so don't count me out of the game just yet!

I have a three year old POA that I am very excited to show this year. Our first show is this weekend and will give me a good idea as to how the year will shape up. I don't have a trainer, but take lessons with one when I can fit it in. POAs people are the best to show!

My first horse, now a 3 year old filly, is training for reining and I do plan to start showing this year, with a goal of late summer or fall. It's definitely a challenge as we are both learning, but thanks to my trainer, he encourages, pushes, and never lets me give up.

I have a 16 year old ranch horse I was going to rodeo on this year... But I think I'll just stick to ranch work, I don't want to push him too hard and blow his knees or anything. We're going to watch a local playday on Saturday though, that may change my mind.

Don't know what I will be able to afford to do this year. Since we're still down an income.

My boys are at home, but I plan on riding as much as I can and if I come across the money to show I will definitely sneak into one or two.

My Goals this year are to make it through the year, get back to riding my younger guy regularly and hopefully sell one horse.

A little different from trying for year-end awards or hoping for futurity wins. Amazing what can happen in a year...

I had planned on show in 4 to 5 shows this year. Unfortunatly I broke my ankle (in five places) which has curtailed my showing for this year and maybe next as well. That sucks.

Oh yeah, my goals for this year: Get my horse past his buddy sourness (almost completed that one whoohoo!), be able to take him on long trail rides again and work on general manners. Every ride is a training experience! Also overcome my fears of getting bucked off

I will be showing a 3 year old in halter and my reining mare will be ridden by the trainer. We plan on making the 2 TT shows and both Spokane shows w/ the reiner. If things go well with her we may go to the worlds with her. The 3 year old I will show at halter and hopefully find a new owner for her.

I am going to continue eventing with my two Paint horses and plan to move them up a level this year. Horses are my only luxury. We are also planning a weekend riding in the a provincial park in the mountains.

I just got back into horses after not riding and showing for over 10 years. I am mainly just showing at our State QH shows, as both myself and my horse are too green for anything else at this moment. My goal for the year is just to get back out there doing what I love.

I am taking a break this year, except for cutting practice and maybe a few cutting jackpots with a non-approved club.
My reined cowhorse is on a much deserved break and I'm beginning the long wait to regain my non-pro status.
The economy and reality are keeping me to the sidelines, at least this year.

No show plans for me personally, but I am enjoy the atmosphere and plan to help out barn friends at local schooling shows, both western and english.

I have hopes to take my 18 yr old appy to a club show next year, but we'll see how my riding goes over the next year or so.

It would be if you could show your new horse at yearling shows next year!

I can't wait to see you out there showing your new baby! I can't wait for more pictures of that handsome horse :)

We are going to do some small schooling shows this year. I'll show Quinn, the monster horse, probably English HUS. Wade is going to show his new heel horse in halter and maybe some western eq or pleasure (not really a pleasure horse though)
and Mercy wants to show her mare in who knows what. But we're staying local and low key, just working on basics.
Good post!

I've been to 2 shows so far, one open, one App, and plan on hitting several more this year. My mare is green so we are just doing halter and HIH at the app shows, and saving the riding for open shows. It is working out well because I am saving a little money by only doing in-hand events and saving my few remaining novice points for a trip to Fort Worth next year!

Well Im showing a friends horse in halter again only on the ApHCC shows, and might be showing another friends horse in some open shows wp.

AQHA is still to rich for us, esp trying to put miles on a new horse.

After being the "Support Mom" on the 4H and a little bit of the APHA 'trail', daughter lost interest/went off to college, leaving Dad & I with this 'show' horse. Gosh, I watched enough of these shows and thought it would be fun to experience showing. I started taking lessons this winter. Wow, lots harder then it looks! But what fun!! Don't have my 'wings' yet (haven't loped) but I'm close and will unveil my 55+ year-old talents at our local APHA open show in August with plans to experience the local schooling shows in our area this next fall/winer. In the meantime, showing has given me inspiration to eat well, exercise, increased my confidence in horses and myself. Plus..a chance to enjoy all this bling we've accumulated thoughout the years. Hope daughter will return to it someday but in the meantime, I'm just having a ball. :)

If CTRs are considered "showing" I'm planning on attending the only NATRC sanctioned ride in Alaska this year. Lots of miles needed to get the horse and myself conditioned for 50 miles in 2 days.

I'm considering my first return to the show ring since 4-H days (a 16 year absence). The plan is to keep it small and simple, one or two local shows where starched jeans and shirt are as fancy as most people get, though I should get a legitimate show halter.

I just got my very first horse, a lovely mare, who I hope to do some dressage shows with this summer/fall. We'll just have to see how she progresses, she's very green. My goals with her are to bring her along correctly (with help from my amazing trainer, of course!) and have fun with her. Showing isn't a high priority for us right now, there's plenty of time for that later.
Good luck everyone!!

I have been to two shows so far with my all-around miniature gelding. Had great success so far, with a several grands in halter and lots of blues in driving, inhand trail and hunter.

I plan to go to three more out of town pinto shows and a buckle series of three shows locally. So I am really hitting it hard for me. Have waited all my life to do this, and finally at 53, with my first pony, I am on the road and doing well.

My husband and I are looking to go to 7-8 regional ApHC shows.....qualify for Worlds in whatever we can, and show there. Life is good, and it's so wonderful to have great horses!
