Taking Bets: Lost Horse--Or Dumped Horse?
Guess what showed up this morning, wandering the edge of our driveway and looking for a way to join our horses on the other side of the fence? (Can you tell that we dropped everything, and rushed out to get her captured?)
Here's Ed, about to leave for work, holding a scared, shaking Appaloosa mare that neither of us has ever seen before. I just got done notifying the appropriate authorities--sheriff, animal control, brand inspector--that the horse is here.
Now taking bets on whether she's a lost horse--or a dumped one.
Weren't we just talking about the latter? And do I need my head examined for putting her in the barn, in hope that someone is out looking for her instead of feeling smug for having gotten rid of her?
I guess it's better to have caught her than to leave her out along the state highway that borders our land, where she could collide with someone's vehicle.
But sheesh....not what I need to be dealing with, on this particular deadline day!!!

oh boy. Usually you know all the horses nearby. Maybe it's someone's new horse? You can only hope.
And you know you have to put that horse in your barn. You wouldn't leave her out there!!
So take a picture, I can't wait to see :) Tomorrow, after your deadline :)
She is thin, but her feet look ok, arent you way out? I say either someones new horse or shes been dumped.
PS she is kinda cute!
Well Juli, we went to a new client about two weeks ago, and she told us a very similar story. She got up one morning, peeping out her window while sipping her coffee and counted an extra red filly.
It took her some time, but she tracked down the Horse Dumper, and decided to keep the filly. Good for the filly- she'll have a good home.
I have my fingers crossed that your little wanderer is a new kid on the block, that got out and got lost from her new home... Looking forward to updates...
Maybe she heard about Smitty but did not realize he isn't there yet. LOL She was looking for an Appy baby! Glad you found her folks.
Probably someone that is reading your blog and thought "what a great idea! Let's just dump it off at Julie's!"
I think this sweetie knows a "softy" and that is why she ended up on your property!
: > )
We had a donkey show up at our place about 2 years ago. He stayed with us for about a week and seemed pretty happy hanging with our mares. He had escaped from his owner and had traveled several miles before he got to our place.
