One of Many Riders Blessed by Good Old Tank

Thank you to all who have posted such lovely supportive comments about Tank, our 30-year-old horse whose euthanasia will be tomorrow. I appreciate them extra-extra-much as I weep my way through the waiting.
In his competitive years, Tank and his earlier owner had rivals--rodeo ropers who had good reason to wish the big handsome dun had been left at home.
But in his second career, as our resident guest horse, Tank made nothing but friends. He gave everyone who rode him, from little kids on up to the most experienced riders, a safe, willing, uncomplicated, but big-horsepower ride. And they loved him for it. (So did we.)
In the riding picture, taken last summer, he's with Katharine B., on the annual benefit ride for the Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center. Katharine is among the Friends of Tank who've been coming by the ranch to see him now, and say their goodbyes. She was here this afternoon with pats and carrots (top picture).
I wish that everyone who yearns to experience riding an exceptional horse could have a ride on a horse like Tank. The world would have a lot more big smiles.
Just like the one Katharine has from the saddle. Not much in the way of smiles today, but I know she was reliving her Tank memories.
Me, too.

Everyone should experience a horse like Tank at least once in their lives. From what I've been reading he is an exceptional horse with a lot of friends. So sorry you and his friends have to say goodbye. It always seems too soon.
Our four legged freinds have such short lives. I have only had to put one down once, and it was a colic caused euth. I know how hard it is. I have two now that have passed the 20 mark, so it is always in the back of my mind, although they are healthy and happy yet.
Heres to good memories with Tank, and to all the oldsters that will be in our hearts forever. ( I say with tears in my eyes)
Lots of hugs to you and Tank!!!
My heart is with you today, Juli.
So sorry about Tank. He has had a wonderful life with you and your family - that is a gift you gave to him.
It is so nice to hear of a horse that is well loved and ridden well into old age.
Thinking of you today
I'm thinking of you and praying for God to hold you and Tank close today. hugs
Rest in peace, Tank. You've touched countless hearts with those big eyes and admirable work ethic. The yearlings you schooled in the ways of life in the pasture have benefitted from your steady nature. One of those former yearlings and his owner's heart is breaking today, but we're happy you'll be free to join your friends Ace and Najah in endless green pastures. Take care, my friend, and be at peace.
My thoughts and prayers for with you today, Juli. I know how hard this is for you. God's speed, Tankman.

I pulled this out of the picture frame I keep by my bedside of my best friend. It brought me comfort when I had to put him down and I hope by sharing it with you that it does same.
Somewhere...somewhere
In time's own space
There must be some sweet pasture place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again
Thinking of you today.
I'm so sorry to hear about Tank. You gave him a wonderful life and now you will give him a dignified end. My thoughts are with you.
Thinking of you, Ed and Tank today.
You and Tank have been in my thoughts today, too. May the memories balance sweeter than the sadness.
Horses like Tank are really worth their weight in Gold - it's truly a sad time when they leave us as all of horsedom is poorer for it.
I had a pony that was the short equivalent of Tank - for so many years, it was a sad goodbye for him as well.
