Meeting & Mingling at the Idaho Horse Affair
Why take the time to go to a horse expo, as I did over the weekend?
Because it's fun!
I had a good time meeting two of the Team Horse&Rider members, Julie Goodnight and Stacy Westfall. Stacy seemed to really pack 'em in for her arena presentations; unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a sharp photo of her as I watched from the grandstand area.
But I did manage to get a cute one of Julie Goodnight with a young fan who shyly approached to ask for her autograph.
How many of us could have been this starstruck, horse-crazy girl at some point in our lives? I sure could have....
If there is any kind of horse expo coming up in your area, I recommend that you attend. You'll get a lot of entertainment and education for the price of a day's admission, and you'll get home all fired up again about your own activities with horses.

Sounds like a blast! It's always neat to meet the people we read/write about. There's one right by our office in Harrisburg, PA, this weekend, that a bunch of us will be going to: www.horseworldexpo.com

Kate,
Charles Wilhelm, one of the presenters at Idaho, talked about the Harrisburg show being one of the better ones he has been to.
Have a good time attending!
I'm planning on hitting the Harrisburg one this weekend with my 12-year old daughter.
Thanks, Juli! It was great to meet you! Thanks for posting the photo, too. --Julie
A good friend and her daughters are going to the Harrisburg show. I and my daughter will be going to Equine Affaire in Columbus in April.
I live in the midwest (northern IL) and the horse fair to not miss around here is the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison,WI. I haven't missed a horse fair in probably 20 years.
I always love going to the Horse Expo in Timonium, MD in January. But, sadly, I overheard vendors saying that 2009 may be it's last show. It was evident that there were fewer vendors (2 buildings were opened instead of the usual 3) and less horses were on display in Stallion Row. The clinicians were wonderful this year as always. I saw Tommy Garland, Kenny Harlow and Tommie Turvey. I hope the vendors were wrong and 2010 will be back to it's prior horse related packed event.
I'm from Wisconsin and look forward to the Midwest Horse Fair in mid April every year. I volunteer/work on Thursday all day setting up so I talk with the vendors and there was a lot of grumbling about the costs so it will be interesting to see if vendors are less. It's sad because it's the small vendors with the unique items that can't afford to be here.
Did you get to talk to Stacey about her story in the Quarter Horse magazine?Best thing I have read in ages! Can you believe she was so honest? Talking about her disappointment, what aleeson for us all.
I did not get to talk to Stacy about her article and the experience behind it, but agree that it was a piece well worth reading.
