From Mountain Horse to Pampered Pony

My friend Shelley is someone who takes immaculate care of everything from her house, yard and car, to her personal appearance and the welfare of friends and family.

So it's really no surprise that the first thing she did with Corky, the mustang mountain-outfitter horse she just bought, was to introduce him to the concept of "product."

Beauty product, that is. If you look closely at the top of Corky's rump, you'll see a tube of Cowboy Magic tail conditioner perched up there. Which, I have to admit, totally cracks me up.

Here's a little old gelding who'd surely never had an evening of beauty-pampering before in his entire 28 years. In fact, I'm not sure he'd ever even seen the inside of a barn until last Sunday, when we unloaded him from our trailer and brought him inside.

But, like everything else he's ever been asked to do, he took it as just another matter of course. (I'd been out on the trail several times with Corky in the string, over the course of a decade, and he was always cast in the role of Ol' Reliable.)

Little does he know that there will be more of this pony-pampering to come, from little grandkids' hands on up. Shelley has four grandchildren, including two small girls, so I'm expecting to see some pink in Corky's immediate future.

Pink tail comb, pink brushes, pink halter, pink turnout blanket, pink saddle pad...whadaya think??

I LOVE Cowboy Magic! It actually works really well in little girl (and big girl) long hair too!

What a great situation, that these two horses were able to find loving homes after so many years of service!

What another heartwarming story, Julie. Thank goodness there are people out there still who value these older, "been there, done that" horses. It sounds like they at least had a good owner at the dude ranch who didn't ship them to the auction. Congratulations to the new owners and especially the horses in their new homes!

Awesome! Corky's going to be living in the lap of luxury, and hey, old horses surely deserve some Cowboy Magic :)

Makes me all soft inside, reading this story. Happiness all the way around!

My sister would freak out about Corky and all "his" pink stuff. She was outraged that I would put a bridle with crystals (plain crystals not even coloured ones) on my gelding. lol

In her defence, she doesn't really know better. She (and the rest of my family) are not "horse people" at all.

It is so nice to hear a story like this in these tough horse times.

I've got a big, macho, mustang who's tail I condition with Cowboy Magic all the time and his tack color is "raspberry" which is not pink, but pretty close!

It's amazing to me how fast that mustang learned to love grooming. Before he learned how to clip, I used a scissors to cut his muzzle hairs. He loved it! He would stand quietly with his nose practically on the ground while I snip, snip, snipped away at those hairs.

I bet there are a lot of pasture horses and wild horses out there who would love to be somebody's pampered, Cowboy Magic-ed pet!

What a great new home for an old pony! I have had several horses that would stand and let you groom them for hours. They just loved it. We still treat our horses like show ponies and they get all the brushing and clipping. I have used Mane N Tail on my hair and my horses for years. It is a great product and makes my hair twice as think. Love it.

I have never been much for the "pink" thing myself. However, I have a husband that never puts anything away and loses everything. So I started buying pink buckets, whips, etc. That way I can see them across the arena or where ever he left them. He is always asking why I buy pink and I just tell him,I like it and he has to be tuff enough to use it. LOL

Wow, what a great story, if I had my own place I would have done the same thing.Pink is fabulous, and I do it so I can spot what's "mine".

Every horse deserves a primo retirement after all those years of carting humans around!
