It's Official: I'm No Longer Young Enough for DIY Hay
OK, so our hay is baled, out of the field, and stacked for the coming winter. That's the good news.
The not-so-good-news: I've had to officially declare myself out of the pool for the manual-labor aspect of moving hay. The ol' body (of 1953 vintage) made it very clear it wasn't going to make it to the end of the project.
It's a sorry day when the born farm girl gets outworked by the city-raised guy she's married to. But what can I say? He's 8 years younger!

Don't worry, Ed was sweating up a storm when I drove by last night about 6:30. Great job Ed for getting it all in before it rained.
LOL, I hear ya!
i wish i had a big fealed of hay that i could bail. Im paying $295 for crap grass hay or $410 for timothy that my old arab has to have. God that must be nice!!!

Too funny! I wish I had the equipment to do my own hay, but am thankful I can get it. Too bad they didn't make a more portable machine to pickup hay out of the field and stack it!
I know where you are coming from. I am 1950 vintage and every year my body tells me harder that I am not 25 anymore. I refuse to face that fact and go ahead and do the hard work. Then I hate myself in the evening. Fixing fence is getting harder. I used to enjoy doing it. Now I dread it and sometimes put it off longer than I should. I am now actually thinking about putting in Horse Guard fencing. If I didn't love my horses so much, I think I would give it all up. Thank God I am not ready for the rocking chair yet.
we feel your pain :) Gives new meaning to "labour of love"

Trust me, you are not along in the "Wholly Molly, when did I go from 'sowing my wild oats to eating oats!'...lol!
Glad to see I am not along on this journey of being 50ish & laughing all the way!
>^..^<
Same story here... 1953 was a good year and my honey is also younger "just 7 years". DIY hay stopped 2 years ago and my honey has not done it for at least 10 years. I just paid $285 per ton of mix alf /orchard however. We use 15 tons per year.
