What's On Your Screen Saver?

No Other OptionMy screen saver image--a foal I raised named No Other Option, a.k.a. Carson.

Some people put their horses' photos in frames and keep them on their desks at work.

Others of us just go digital, and use favorite horse photos as screen savers on our computers.

When I open the lid on my laptop, I see one of the foals I raised, a Quarter Horse colt registered as No Other Option (barn name: Carson). Carson is 2 now, and being schooled by the trainer who acquired him from me. But even though I no longer own him, I still enjoy looking at his picture every day. Just something about that carefree, indolent phase of foalhood captured on a summer day that's appealing to me, I guess.

Carson, by the way, is Tiffany's full brother. She is the gray filly who's been in previous posts. Their sire is Absolute Option, a Quarter Horse Congress champion, and their dam is Gust A Gray. As her name implies, she's the one who gave both their gray color.

Is there a horse on your screen saver, by any chance?

I HAD a gorgeous horse wallpaper on my computer. Then my mom came to my house and "played" with my computer and there is a big black dog now. BUT he looks soooo much like my dog I left it.

And in regards to horse names, that is what today's post is on my blog! (post titled "What's in a name?") Feel free to check it out and leave your own comments.

On my screen saver is one of my favorite photos: It's of my deceased Australian shepherd, being shadowed by one of my best friends' Australian shepherd puppy, also deceased. The boys are in perfect step, and the little one is looking up at the big guy with such admiration you can almost see a bubble caption above his head: "You're my hero!"
My husband calls it the "dead dog" screen saver. He's such an emotional guy!

Shaq...I remember a photo of him coming out of a big wrapped box at Christmas time.

Our animal friends just don't live long enough, dangit!

Two horses! My dearly departed chestnut half-Arab gelding, and our sweet lil Appy mare.

It's a photo of my kids riding the horses bareback across the corral. It was a bright blue sky kind of day, with vivid green grass. Champ was shining red in the sunshine. My son was wearing a red shirt. It's so colourful.

I love it because it was taken a few years ago, and the kids were smaller then. Champ was still with us. Copper was just starting with a snaffle bit. And my kids were getting comfortable with riding bareback.

I do intend to get it printed in 8x10 and framing it.

I have a picture of the RCMP musical ride that I took. The red uniform with the black horses is stuning! I work on the same site as their stable and get to see the horses and the performance quite often!

Here is a link (http://www.rcmp.ca/musicalride/index_e.htm) in case people don't know what the musical ride is...

Also, more pictures are on my blog (slideshow on the right side)http://littlekeebler.blogspot.com/

A few weeks ago a professional photographer from this area came by the horse pasture and took many pictures of the horses, creek and beautiful Palouse hills in order to have a Appaloosa photo for a book she is having published on landscape of the Palouse country. She was kind enough to give me a copy of a photo she took that will go in her book. It is of two of our Appaloosas grazing along Silver Creek just outside of Garfield, WA.
Needless to say I am using that as my wallpaper. And am very happy that she got a shot of Appaloosas that she wanted to include in her book.

My screen saver scrolls through all of my photos, but my desktop background is a photo I took the other day, of my three horses standing together looking at me. I change it all the time though. =)

My desktop wallpaper doesn't have a horse on it at the moment but it does have a horse related photo, it's a photo of my cousin and I at this year's Preakness Stakes.

My screensaver cycles through all the photos on my computer, so my mare will scroll across the screen from time to time.

Always makes me smile.

My work computer doesn't have horses on it - I keep that one strictly professional.

On my personal laptop there is a picture of a group of paint horses just busting loose and running through a field all animated and beautiful.

I usually set my screen saver to my digital photo album which contains photo from horse shows, my travels and horses I've owned through the years.

Its always interesting how it will catch someones attention - people who normally wouldn't think of striking up a conversation with a stranger will see horses on my screen saver and want to know all about them - even if they don't own horse. This happens a lot at airports I have noticed.

I ALWAYS put my horse photos on my computer at work . . . reminds me why I work :) I have a photo of two of my mares out in our back pasture against the fall trees as my wallpaper and my screen saver at work cycles through other photos of my horses. They always make me smile.

I'm sort of lucky in that horses are a big part of the government department that I work for. People always comment on the picture I have posted - I'm proud to tell them that I took it myself.

When I was still working I had a different picture of my leopard Appy on each of my work computers so I could tell which was which: one from a 3 day event, another from Spruce Meadows Battle of the Breeds and a third of him driving in the cart, just his butt and the fields going to the horizon. Now that he and I are both "retired" (he's 26 and still truckin') I am still using the picture of him taking a Swedish oxer on my home pc. The sight of him never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Currently, my computer has a screen saver of Teddy O'Connor. He was amazing.

My daughter has just turned 6 and has been taking riding lessons since this past fall (she wanted to start when she was 3 but no one would take her!), so I have several pictures of her with her lesson horse, Fred. He's a sweet old chesnut who is perfect for a beginner rider, and I love going in and tacking him up every week! She's just attended riding camp this week, so I'll be adding more pictures of her riding various ponies they had at the camp. Some of their names were 'Diana', 'Puddin Pie', 'Sparkle', 'Cookie', and 'Misty'... I am guessing most were named by little girls, what do you think?

I too have the colt I raised on my screen saver. The one and only baby I had from start to finish. The best moment of my life so far was when he was born in my lap and came out exactly as I prayed he would! Dun with a hip blanket and spots, matching back sox and a star, plus I wanted a colt. No better ridin than a rock solid gelding.

Finally one I got to name. A Hollywood Jac 86 grandson, I named him "Lookin' So Good Jac" ApHC/NRHA
