Back Home and Back to (Almost) Normal
Hi, all,
I'm checking back in after my return from nearly a week in Texas, and after the resulting mad hustle to write and slip a major feature article in under the deadline wire for Horse & Rider's July issue. Huff, puff, huff, puff, and we'll get over the jet-lag/sleep-lag later!
A few observations:
* Texas highway design takes a little getting used to. It's been a while since I made that many U-turns.
* You can get just about any meal with a side of fried okra. Assuming you would want to (I did try it).
* In early May, Texas' nighttime lows are higher than the daytime highs back in Idaho.
* It takes about half a day for "y'all" to enter a visiting northerner's vocabulary. As pronouns go, it's about as ubiquitous as the fried okra.
Now, how about dishing what y'all were up to while I was gone?

Watchin' those gas prices . . . . Whoa!
We might have to start riding our horses to work!
How about circuit-riding freelance writers and editors? ;-)
Blessings,

This circuit-riding freelancer has yet to get started this year! I feel SO behind. We almost made our first show of the season a couple weeks ago, but a thrown shoe the afternoon before put an end to that plan.
April
I've been to 3 jackpots (technically 4, one was a double header).
Had an interesting ride where we (my friend and her horse, my and my horse) were "attacked" by a ferocious, yellow, plastic "MONSTER".
Survived working Mother's Day! (Busiest day of the year for our restaurant)
Spent some "quality time" with my ponies :)
Well, inspired by you and your regular commenters, I blew the dust off of my old blog and have started posting a bit about my horse.
Come check it out! http://littlekeebler.blogspot.com
I'm also trying to sell above-mentioned horse in a very oversaturated market. (I'm in Canada). It tough out there for everyone with climbing costs.
Hmmmm....
riding
working
shopping for up-to-date english clothes
cleaning my hole of a house
got a new dog
mountain biking
Talk about the saturated horse market! I have beautiful (the real thing) 7-year-old registered Quarter horse gelding that I can't sell for the life of me. He's got a champion pedigree, wins conformation classes, does English/Western/Showmanship well, great gaits, and has a sweet and affectionate personality. I thought it would take about 3 months to sell him, but after 4 months I have received only 3 'just looking' emails and no phone calls. He is priced lower than what I got him for, but his training has increased since then. I am flabbergasted. There isn't even a market for quality horses. I may have to put him up for auction, which I worry about.
Buyers, on the other hand, have it good right now.
Now Julie!
Okra is the state..ummm....well, the best dang thing to go with anything! hahaha We do love it here. Did you enjoy the wild flower show? I know you saw fields of beautiful wild flowers. I don't get to see them here in West Texas. We have horn toads and tumble weeds with a dash of rattlesnake. Just WONDERFUL! I love it and would not change it for anything!
My poor little ponies (2 big horses) have been a tad neglected. The boys have been playing tball all month and tae-kwon-do is every night. So the horses are enjoying not having to do a dern thing. They get a hello, how are ya and a scratch or 5 and thats about it. I am ready for school to be over and horse activities to start!
Whew, had to get that off my chest. I don't blog yet but I might just have to start. hahaha
HA! You nailed it on the head... The u-turns, the "Y'all," the fried okra... Yuck. :P
My hubby and I were in San Antonio last year and man were those streets ever confusing!
Glad to have you back! :D
It's takes twice as long to lose the y'all!! Welcome back!!
