Ready for a Weekend! (With Horses)

There's nothing like a sunny-at-last Friday morning to get you in the mood for some weekend horse activity. Care to share your plans for gettin' out into the Nicker Zone?

I have plans for a half-day ride/groom/graze session with Riley, for continuing the process of legging up Tank, That 70s Horse, and for creating a horsehair blizzard with the shedding tools.

I'm also meeting up tomorrow with someone who has a potential grandkid horse for sale. I'll take the camera, and keep you posted on that one.

Happy Friday!

The weather forecast is calling for temps in the 70s this weekend in Maryland.

So I plan on getting the last of those winter furries off my mare (she is the horse in my avatar) and hitting the trail. Followed by a nice bath and an attempt to tame that mane of hers :o)

Well my "weekend" is usually Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Temps here are to be in the high teens-low 20's... which actually isn't too bad because that's Celsius (so I believe that's high 60's)
Sunday I hope to have a "beauty parlour" day; wash tails, shedding blade, some touch up trimming and maybe break out the grooming vacuum (best investment as I can use it on the dogs too!)
Monday I have riding penciled in and Tuesday is my "me" day... chiro and massage, which sounds heavenly but its a deep-tissue therapeutic massage so it usually hurts!

More grooming, more riding and re-learning what was lost over the winter months. I need to learn how to ground-drive to prepare my 3-year-old Arab filly for riding, which means breaking out the horse training books.

BIG weather change has moved in--maybe 80 degrees by Sunday?

I'm digging through the tack room to find the lighter-weight horse blankets!

I'm hoping to finally be able to wash and clip some really icky, hairy legs (the horse's legs, not mine!). I might just have to go through the grooming supplies while I'm waiting for those legs to dry, assessing inventory and cleaning/bleaching what I can. And, of course, how can I pass up saddle time in first 70-degree temps of the year?

Lovely weekend promised here too! I'm spending it fetching a potential grandchild (or maybe grandMOTHER) filly. A trainer went with me before making the offer, and we agreed this petite 3year old palomino is never going to get very big and doesn't act as if she going to be very difficult either, judging from her present size and demeanor.
In a few years time perhaps she'll be a little girls' horse (my granddaughter is already 3 months old!) .. or, if she's not that kind of a mare by then (or if my granddaughter doesn't want a pony -- could such a thing HAPPEN?!) .. then I guess what we have is a short quiet grandmother's mare with a mane the same color as mine.
:-)

Saturday is fence fixing day, Sunday is going to be clean up day for the mare coming to the ApHC museum for the summer as a companion to the next raffle gelding and for the hubby's palomino mud ball and Monday is going to be take a granddaughter for a ride day. Also hope to get in some yard work that didn't get done last fall.

Our spring has left us; snow flurries the last couple days and temps at freezing... I dream of 70's and 80's! Our horses quit shedding and are growing it back! :) They don't trust the weather any more than we do!
