Blog Readers: Say Hi To Steph, A Regular

After you've been writing (and reading) a blog for a while, you begin to recognize some of those who leave comments on a regular basis. And sometimes, in my case, you get to hang out with them in person.

Horse Talk blog reader StephOn Saturday, I got a chance to ride and go to lunch with Steph, shown here on her Quarter Horse that she shows in Western pleasure. Steph's from northeastern Washington and has her horse with a trainer I sometimes ride with in Idaho.

Through the blog, we learned that we both have a rockhound streak. The day we met up to ride, Steph brought along a thunderegg she'd found at age 8 and hadn't had cut open until just recently. It turned out to have a rare crystal pattern inside--something a fellow rock lover could appreciate!

Steph's an excellent writer who probably ought to have her own blog. Last year, she submitted a moving commentary to a post I made about attending a benefit for a horseman who lost his barn to fire. That horseman was Steph's trainer, and she was among the owners whose horses perished in that fire. Re-visit her comment here:

I agree, Steph should have a blog. Her writing style has a real voice.
Juli should put the bug in her ear, maybe with some encouragement Steph will start a blog (if she has the time)

Hi Juli,

It was great getting to ride with you this weekend. I have to admit I was thinking to myself "I wonder what she's gonna do with that?" after you left. But I am such a ham I didn't really even think about it. At the time you were taking the picture - I was like "Yay! Someone wants to take my picture - here I'll pose for ya!" I think I even loped over to pose - I'm horrible.

But it such a nice day and was so much fun - and you missed it! Just after you left I rode Stretch english for the first time and my first time Hunt Seat in like 10 years, it was great fun. Later I had to use Joe as my personal boot jacket because apparently in past 10 years I have grown calves and boy are those english boots tight! It was a scene you would've had to been there to appreciate fully.

I am so sore I can hardly move! I didn't even get to ride poor Patrick, because I was so tired after a mere 30 minutes riding Hunt Seat. I don't remember it being such a work-out, but it is. Hats off to all you hunt seat riders!!

I think I may have a tendency to whine in a blog, maybe, plus I have am not sure how to go about properly doing one. Is whining allowed? For my first one I could title it, "Trainer Pulls Client by a Foot Down a Hill in Effort to Remove Annoying Boot."

I just love my rocks...and horses. and I should've bought that darn book...

You are so great! Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement!

Steph,
The mental picture of you being pulled down a hill by your boot is just too good. One of those things where you DIDN'T have to be there for it to be funny!

I had never even seen a blog before starting this one. So I'm pretty much proof that you can make one be whatever you want it to be--whining or no whining!

Juli, I've passed an Excellence in Equine Care award to you. You need to pop over by me and pick it up, pop it up on your blog if ya want and pass it along to someone you feel deserves it! Congrats!

Callie,
Thanks for this. Unfortunately, I don't quite know how to proceed; what's the link to your site?

You should be able to click my name and at the bottom of profile should be a list of my blogs. It's at www.midwesthorse.blogspot.com
And copy and paste the award to your site.

To Steph: So glad you decided to start a blog! I've become quite the blog addict, there's 3 I check regularly, now I guess it will be 4!
I've even decided to try my hand at it, if nothing else it will be a place to "vent" the hopes, dreams and frustrations that come with horses!

Ok - I really got it together now. There is a lot to learn about blogs.

Here is a google blog: http://inclined2ride.blogspot.com/

I am cross posting (that was a trick to learn) so I am posting on the equisearch blog and the same content will be automatically posted on the google blog. I enjoyed the functionality of the google blogger over the my horse space blog. But I am still very impressed with the whole equisearch community and the "My Horse Space" options.

What a neat idea for horse folks who otherwise are spooked of sites like "My Space" and "Facebook" I feel a little safer and at ease in an online horse community.

You've created a monster I don't what else to say. But it is a great outlet for my writing.

Steph,
Writing is a lot like riding--to get good at it, and then to STAY good at it, you have to do it regularly.

Hmm. Blogging is to writing, as loping circles is to riding?

Blog on!
