Our Horse Dreams and Goals for 2008

Naturally, I can't let the first day of the new year go by without doing some musing on how I'd like the year to shape up for me, horsewise. You may be having similar thoughts.

On my dreams list:

* That Tiffany, who had stifle surgery three weeks ago, will defy her prognosis and be sound enough to have a useful life.
* That Riley, who spent two of the last three riding seasons laid up with stupid-horse-trick injuries, will stay out of trouble well enough to get more than a few saddle miles on him in 2008.
* That Tank, who officially turns 29 years old today, will be blessed with another year of good health.
* That Gussie, if we decide to breed her one more time, will get in foal as easily as she's done before and have an event-free pregnancy.

On my goals list:

* To make time to ride Riley at least twice a week.
* To do at least one horse activity that's outside my usual realm and comfort zone.
* To inventory all my horse equipment and either sell or donate the items I no longer use frequently.
* To finish scraping and painting the rest of the three-board arena and pasture fence!

You?

For me, #1 more time in the training pen with both Kola and Misty for conditioning and a reminder of ground work.
#2 A little more time in the saddle, even if it's only in the training pen.
#3 And by doing those, build my confidence and theirs as well.

Dream List 2008

-To have a normal show season where my horses stay healthy, are competitive and nothing bad happens to them, my friends or family.

-To watch my now three year-old make his show pen debute(sp?)

-To successfully show my now four year-old in novice WP and Trail.

-Try Western Riding

2008 Goals
- Make as many shows as I can afford.
- Learn 2 new events.
- Try my older gelding in HUS
- Relax more at shows, stop trying to help everyone do everything.

Hi, Truthseeker:

In its sponsorship role, Horse & Rider provides supportive services--publicity, for example--but doesn't participate in planning. That role belongs to the organizers of Road to the Horse. I'm not really privy to how RTTH's organizers choose the participating trainers.

If I may make a suggestion concerning Tank, Some horses have a special place in our heart and we watch in dread as that loved one begins to get older. I had such a horse, the kind that don't owe you anything. As he aged I decided to give him a birthday party. We had guest that had competed against him from 4 states. We even had a cake. Now he has gone on to his reward but that party is a memory that my family and I still hold dear. A soft hearted vet

2008 Goals:

Groom EVERYBODY MORE OFTEN!!!! ;-)

Ride my retired mare bareback more. She likes that best.

Ride my dad's horse some. Get him to ride her, too. And get anyone else that wants to up on her. She needs to be useful! (and happier when she is.) Anybody want to come ride?? lol

But what I REALLY want to do is.....

Bust my gelding out of retirement, get him (and myself!) fit, and show him in Hunter Hack!! Maybe some flat classes too. (if we have the energy!) I discovered his love of hopping over things later in life (was my WP and sidesaddle youth horse) and I want to do some more before he's too old. (or i'm too old!) I think I would smile/laugh through the whole class. :-)
