Horse Decor--Gotta Have It!
OK, let's admit it--it is virtually impossible to be a horseperson without expressing that passion, somehow, in your home decor. Sometimes, as with my friend Chatty's collection of antique painted carrousel horses, the expression is quite grand. Other times...well, let's just say the expression isn't quite so grand.
Take my house, for instance. I'm big on paint-by-number horse pictures--the kind we got as Christmas gifts in the '50s and '60s. Nothing grand about those slices of Americana...colorful, yes, but grand, not even! I also love old cowboy boots, and don't even care if they fit me. Consequently, my house tends to look as though the boys from the bunkhouse moved in, and never left.
I don't have any horse-motif bedding or sofa pillows, but know plenty of people who do. Ditto on horse figurines, stuffed horses, horsey fridge magnets, or furniture made from old horseshoes. To each her own--because heaven forbid that someone should come to the door, and not KNOW, for sure, that a horseperson dwells within!

Since our house is chalet style much of the interior has been done in northwoods design; however, one wall has been dedicated to collecting Karmel Timmons horse artwork....and it fits in wonderfully!
I have a little eBay habit... and collect Hubley cast iron horse door stops, and those cheesey little bronzey souvenirs in the shape of cowboy boots. Fun stuff that my husband tolerates and I cherish.
okay,I am totally guilty of having some kinda horse in every room. Art work, figurines, useful stuff like horse hangers, a collection of rare framed horse and horse show posters like the only year the APHA had it's world show in Reno NV, and yes I do have a nice horse quilt conforter on the bed. Even my shower curtain is horse motiff. My office/computer room is decorated with ribbons, award certificates and plaques, registration papers, ROM's, and pedigree's all framed.
I don't have to answer to anyone about the decor, I enjoy it and that is what matters. I don't see my taste anything close to what you might find in the Ashley furniture stores...LOL even my carpet in the living room is a nice solid green any horse would surely nibble on.
Old boots Julie??? LOL let me know where to send um, I have a bunch that I should throw out that are cluttering up the mud room while I wear the ones in better shape.
I have one room as people enter my home, full of picturs of the grandchildren and their horses as various shows, ribbons they've won, trophies won by them, my daughter & myself. one wall has a picture of my daughter's mini that died in Jan. also a silver platter & ribbon won by my mini gelding in futurity driving.
my main living room has a wall with an oil portrait of my Thoroughbred/qh that died of age & complications, plus pictures of the other 4 horses that we've owned and lost due to illness.
My kitchen is decorated with farm animals of every kind.
born a farm girl, always a farm girl. :o)
I am with you Juli - no desire to hit anyone over the head with my horse habit.
My place is clean and as free of clutter as you can get on a schedule like mine. A little potery barn, a little downtownish art scene, a little bit of barn. All arranged in a pleasing way. My fine arts background pops out.
Its different but its me - no drapes of horses, or comforters - a unique painting or two of a horse is about it. Gives most guests something to talk about...and is often a dinner table conversation at horse shows.
