Sunday Humor: Land Rover Commercial From Britain

by Fran Jurga | 10 May 2009 | The Jurga Report

Watch the video before you read this text!

I loved this commercial when it came out last year; Land Rover could never show it over here because it's much too subtle and no one would get it. The young horsewoman is, of course, world champion event rider Zara Phillips and grand-daughter of Queen Elizabeth. I believe she is something like 11th or 12th in line for the throne.

And there are definite rules for how you talk to members of the royal family--remember when Michelle Obama touched the queen? And here's this guy, chatting up her grand-daughter as if he's about to ask her to come 'round the pub for a pint later. Obviously, he has no idea who she is. But he does admit that she "looks familiar".

Notice that this is a very clever ad agency: Zara never says a word at all. She lets her horse, Toytown, speak for her, and quite brilliantly at that.

I thought she was a good sport to make this commercial. Bravo, Land Rover!

What's your favorite horse-related commercial?

Preview Super Sunday: Pedigree's Super Bowl Commercial

America is gearing up for Super Sunday! While I don't really care who wins the game, I do care what the new Budweiser Clydesdale ad will be like. I'll be watching the ads more than the game, except for the part where Bruce Springsteen takes the stage at half time.

This Pedigree public service ad will be aired during the Super Bowl and it's already one of my favorites. I hope that animal welfare groups will see the humor in it. The end message is the best part, because it is a bit of a surprise, but the whole ad made me laugh.

I think I know those people in the Pedigree ad! That's my tribe!

Please laugh on Sunday as if you are seeing it for the first time.

Some people keep score of the game, I keep score of the ads!

And yes, I know that this one by Bud Light is an all-time favorite of plenty of horse lovers (especially men, for some reason)!

Feel free to leave a comment about your favorite ad, this year or in the years past. I think my favorite one was the Budweiser Clydesdale ad where the vet was called out of a formal party to go the farm and deliver a foal. What's yours?
