Beyond the Homestretch: Columbus and Lynn Reardon Both Found Themselves in New Worlds

by Fran Jurga | 12 October 2009 | The Jurga Report at Equisearch.com

Today is the day we celebrate as the anniversary of Columbus finding himself in the New World, so let's expand on that theme a bit and talk about finding yourself, period. And in this case, our media is thanks to the book publishing company New World Library, which I thought pretty appropriate for Columbus Day.

While on the surface this is an announcement for a book that is coming out in a few weeks, it is a bit of a celebration in itself of a life spent doing the right thing for horses that have a way of doing the right thing for us.

I haven't read Lyn's book but I am familiar with her Thoroughbred rescue work through the LOPE agency in Texas. The book is called
Beyond the Homestretch
. Thanks to New World Library for creating such a sensitive multimedia announcement, and thanks to
Alex Brown Racing
for urging me to check this out.

But most of all, thanks to Lyn for having the fortitude to follow her heart or her gut or her path or whatever you want to call it. I hope her book inspires and reaffirms many more people who will follow her lead or realize that, by taking care of the horses who need their help, they've been doing the right thing all along.

Thanks for posting the trailer for Beyond the Homestretch. It looks like such an exciting book. It's coming from our publisher, New World Library. They just published our new horse book, Horses with a Mission: Extraordinary Stories of Equine Service. Horses with a Mission has 21 true stories that will cause people to view horses in a whole new way -- as sentient beings who choose their callings in life and fulfill their purpose.

The book contains a story that Fran brought to the public's attention about Molly, the three-legged pony who gave hope to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Now Kaye Harris, who rescued Molly, tells the story in her own words with wonderful details that have never been revealed. She shows Molly's miraculous journey and all this spunky pony is doing to fulfill her mission by giving hope to children and adults with disabilities and cancer. Kaye calls it "Molly Magic" and that's truly what it is. horseswithamission.com
