by Fran Jurga | 23 April 2009 | The Jurga Report
Around noon today a Florida pharmacy issued a statement to the Associated Press saying that it made an error in the compounding of the formula for the vitamin supplement given to the polo ponies who died on Sunday at a Wellington, Florida polo match. The pharmacy said that the formula was compounded from a prescription provided by a Florida veterinarian.

IF THIS WAS HUMAN ERROR THERE ARE QUITE A FEW PEOPLE RESPSONSIBLE HERE. THESE HORSE'S SUFFERED A TERRIBLE AGONIZING DEATH EVEN IF IT WAS FOR ONLY A FEW HOURS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE COULD HAVE MADE A MISTAKE LIKE THIS. IT'S A GOOD THING THIS DID'NT HAPPEN TO 21 PEOPLE AS THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTS MADE BY NOW.
When this story first broke, being in the horse business for over 25 years, I had a very sick feeling in my stomach. This "vitamin supplement" injection and supposed error on the pharmacy's end in compounding the correct dosages of this cocktail for these 21 horses makes for a great deal of suscpion with the person who ordered the medication and who administered the medication. I won't be surprised if the toxicology reports will tell quite a different story and we see some people face felony animal abuse charges.
The rich and famous can do what they want, they pay enourmous amounts for horses and abuse them, when they get tired, they are abandoned and left to die. Can't the owners see that the country is suffering an huge recession, people losing their homes, cars, jobs and facing the swine flu? Showing off in festivals do not help the exodus due to foreclosures and high cost of living in South Florida. Let them blame the pharmacy. Why giving vitamin supplements to healthy, young horses?? Something is very wrong.
