USDA Seeks to Clarify Definition of Horses Bound for Slaughter

APHIS-2006-0168-0001 - Veterinary Services Proposed Rule on Commercial Transportation of Equines to Slaughter OPEN for Public Comment until January 7, 2008

NOTICE FROM THE USDA/APHIS -- We are proposing to amend the regulations regarding the commercial transportation of equines to slaughter to add a definition of equine for slaughter and make other changes that will extend the protections afforded by the regulations to equines bound for slaughter but delivered first to an assembly point, feedlot, or stockyard. This action would further ensure the humane treatment of such equines by helping to ensure that the unique and special needs of equines in commercial transportation to slaughter are met.

While some may find your efforts commendable to extend humane treatment during transport, I wonder why you do not extend your compassion further and call for an outright ban on horse slaughter. While I appreciate that transport would be more humane, it doesn't change the conditions that the horses face once they reach their destinations, whether it be the feedlot or slaugtherhouse. Please support the federal legislation to ban horse slaughter.

The only request is to Abolish Horse Slaughter in General. Support and listen to the will of the American People. The AVMA and the AAEP have always knew of Double Deckers and have ignored it until our voices spoke out and the accidents raised. Horses have always traveled to Mexico for inhumane slaughter and the AVMA and AAEP knew this and did Nothing now we raise our voices again and say we hold them responsible for them ignoring there own oath they took in office to protect the horses and lie's to the public. We will not rest until our bills are passed and forced upon the criminals that are profiting off the demand of foreign profits. We are responsible horse folks and are not resting a minute.for more sellouts and fact visit www.SaveDaHorses.com
